An Indonesian worker received a 15-year prison sentence for a manslaughter conviction handed down by the Supreme Court.
The Supreme Court yesterday confirmed the previous ruling by the Hsinchu District Court and Taiwan High court of 15 years in jail for a migrant worker, named Indayani, for an incident which occurred in May 2015.
The victim surnamed Lin, who was found stabbed to death was Indayani's former boss at a breakfast shop in Zhubei, Hsinchu.
The migrant worker revealed that she was abused by Lin and Lin's husband and decided to ambush her boss in the early morning outside the shop on May 18, 2015. When Lin arrived in her car, the Indonesian worker attacked and fatally stabbed her in the driver's seat, the court said.
Indayani asked for a lighter sentence from the court due to the mental illness she was suffering from. However, the court said that the incident happened six months after she had quitted her job and there was no evidence showing the defendant's actions were triggered by mental illness.
Consequently, the court decided the final conviction of 15-year prison sentence was appropriate.
