An Indonesian woman who worked as a caregiver in Taipei for around a year allegedly committed suicide early on Sunday, jumping off the balcony of her employer’s home on the tenth floor.
A security guard at the residential block at Section 6 in Neihu district’s Minquan East Road heard a bang at about 4am on February 26 and found the woman’s body out near the entrance, The Liberty Times reported.
The maid, 36, who had served the family for one year, was a domestic caregiver who had signed up for three years to look after her employer’s elderly mother. Previously, the employer became aware that her worker missed home a lot.
Her employer did not object to ending the caregiver’s term sooner, but allegedly told the maid she had to talk to the employment agency in regard to contract matters.
According to preliminary police inquiries, the maid was very likely to have jumped from the building due to homesickness, although a suicide note was not recovered.
