Taipei, Sept. 6 (CNA) Taiwan reached agreement with the Philippines on four key issues during the 7th R.O.C. (Taiwan)-Philippines Joint Labor Conference on Tuesday in Manila, Taiwan's Ministry of Labor (MOL) said on Wednesday

The meeting was headed by Taiwan's Minister of Labor Lin Mei-chu (林美珠) and Philippine Secretary of Labor and Employment Silvestre H. Bello III, the MOL said in a statement.

The Philippines agreed to look for financial sources to cover any outstanding medical expenses incurred by its migrant workers in Taiwan. Furthermore, it will also seek donations to cover any outstanding fees and fines owed to the Taiwan government by migrant workers on the run, according to the MOL.

On a second point, the Philippines agreed to review how labor contracts and salary declarations are authenticated, for which there are currently two different approaches.

In addition, in an effort to safeguard the health of Filippino workers, both parties agreed to increase drug prevention measures.

Lastly, Taiwan and the Philippines agreed to continue discussing issues related to fees incurred in the hiring of Filippino fishing workers.
